In 2018, a devastating fire broke out at one of Belfast's most prominent historic buildings. The 237-year-old Grade B1 Listed building that housed PRIMARK was destroyed by the blaze. PRIMARK's commitment to retaining, conserving and restoring this much-loved historical building saw an extensive four-year restoration project take place in the heart of the city. The famous front of the Bank Buildings in Belfast is now once again visible as Primark reopened its newly refurbished store on the 1st November 2022.
The renovation involved hundreds of crafts and tradespeople, including more than 40 expert stonemasons from across the UK and Ireland who were tasked with carving new stone works and repairing existing stone as part of the restoration. McMonagle Stone was delighted to be chosen as the natural stone supplier to support Keystone Supplies, Cregg Stone Ltd and Bennett Construction in restoring this iconic building to its former glory.
Check out the fantastic timelapse of the restoration works here at PRIMARK Belfast.com Our talented workshop team created beautiful replacement details using Locharbriggs Sandstone. Locharbriggs Sandstone was carefully selected and sourced from a quarry in Scotland to closely match the original stonework.
