Porcelain Tiles

Porcelain Tiles are made using a very specific type of clay, sand and feldspar. They are fired at a much higher temperature making them more dense and harder than ceramic tiles.

Advantages

  • Suitable for internal and external applications.

  • Offering modern designs with larger sizes and consistency in colour.

  • Higher durability than ceramic tiles.

  • Rectified tiles allowing for consistent narrow joint gaps.

  • Low maintenance, simple to clean.

  • High moisture resistance, absorb less water.

  • Suitable for areas with high footfall as more resistant to scratches and scuff marks.

Disadvantages

  • More brittle and difficult to cut.
  • Variations in colour, texture and sizes between different batches.

Porcelain Batch Warning

As porcelain is manufactured in batches it is likely that colour, texture and sizes will vary from batch to batch. As a result, the porcelain you view from a sample tile or sample display area in our showroom / depot may vary from the porcelain you receive.

We do not recommend mixing sizes or batches. We recommend ordering your full quantity to ensure porcelain is delivered from the same batch. We also recommend to order between 3 – 5% of your area extra to allow for any replacements should a tile become damaged or broken in the future.

If you are planning to complete a project in stages and choose to part order then we would highly recommend keeping a record of the ‘batch colour code’ of the delivered porcelain (Listed on the porcelain packaging). Please be informed that McMonagle Stone cannot guarantee stock from specific batches and do not keep a record of delivered batch numbers.

Porcelain Installation

Depending on requirements porcelain can be used for Internal Flooring (10mm Thickness) or External Flooring (20mm – 30mm Thickness) in both domestic and commercial settings. Porcelain can also be used on walls depending on their weight. They can be used in areas with high moisture levels like wetrooms and pool areas. Please ensure the porcleain you purchase is suitable for the intended installation.

We recommend enlisting the services of an experienced and reputable paver who has a proven track record of laying porcelain tiles. It is advised to lay the porcelain either stack bond or third bond due to variances in tiles. If laid half bond then the variances in the tiles are more visible and they may look bent and form pools of water.

Further Information:

Should you have any concerns relating to porcelain we would recommend contacting our sales team at your nearest depot to discuss in more detail prior to purchase.
